"Hat Trick" Hammarlund leads Mustangs to GPAC win over Midland

FREMONT, Neb. — Tuva Hammarlund scored a hat trick to power Morningside past Midland 6-1 tonight at Midland's Heedum Field.
Hammarlund put the Mustangs on the board just 70 seconds into the match, finishing off an assist from Mia Stoffel. Melissa Tsatiris doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, taking a feed from Trinay Garcia to send Morningside into halftime up 2-0.
Midland clawed back early in the second half on a penalty kick, but Hammarlund responded with two more goals in a 12-minute span, the first assisted by Emma Feigl and the second on a PK, to stretch the advantage to 4-1.
Tsatiris added her second score of the night in the 72nd minute, assisted by Keyera Harmon, and Vanessa Boege capped the scoring in the 77th minute off a pass from Fien Lampe.
Morningside outshot Midland 18-7 and put 11 attempts on frame. Goalkeepers Moriah Dixson and Fran Telford combined for four saves, while the Mustangs' defense held the Warriors to just seven shots.
Morningside is quiet this week as it prepares for its homecoming match against Concordia on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 8 p.m.
