Women's Wrestling Takes Fifth Place at GPAC Championship
HASTINGS, Neb. – Morningside’s women’s wrestling season reached its peak today, as the Mustangs competed in the second edition of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Women’s Wrestling Championship. Morningside, having navigated injuries for much of the season, fielded four wrestlers in the competition.

Callee Shearer, wrestling in the 124-pound bracket, fell in 2:26, giving her third place in the three-wrestler bracket.
Elizabeth Rubio and Kelise Cook-Krivohlavic competed in the 131-pound bracket. Rubio started her day with a 10-0 victory via technical superiority in 37 seconds, but was bounced to the consolation side of the bracket with a loss via fall.
Cook-Krivohlavic was on the short end of a 12-1 tech fall in her opening match. On the consolation side of the bracket, she advanced to the consolation quarterfinals with victory via fall in 1:43, where she collided with teammate Rubio.
Head-to-head, Rubio collected a pin over Cook-Krivohlavic, with the duo going scoreless for five minutes before Rubio collected the fall. Rubio would fall in the consolation semifinals via technical superiority, then drop a 12-8 decision in the fifth place match.
Bailey Wehmeyer competed in the 160-pound weight class, finishing fifth. Her day started with a fall in 43 seconds in the quarterfinal round. She avoided the pin, but lost 12-2 via technical superiority in 4:27 in the consolation semifinals, sending her to the fifth place match. Wehmeyer collected a win via fall in the match, leading 8-0 when she secured the pin at the 2:56 mark.
The Mustangs finished fifth in the tournament, scoring 29.5 points.
