SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – A National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' top 10 performance in the women's javelin was one of many highlights for Morningside University's afternoon at the Dordt Invitational Saturday, April 2.
Head coach Dave Nash's men's and women's teams registered three event victories. Freshman Rylee Olsen's javelin moon toss of 133 feet, eight inches, suitable for a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics automatic national championships cut, defeated the field by more than 10 feet. It also ranked 10th on the current Track and Field Results Reporting System's national performance list.
The Mustang women's squad also claimed two event titles on the Open Space Field track. Senior distance standouts Emalee Fundermann (Anthon, Iowa) and Kristine Honomichl (Westminster, Colo.) claimed the 800 and 5000-meter races. Fundermann's 2:21.19 in the 800 led a remarkable first through seventh place ending for Mside. Honomichl hit the tape in 18:27.07 in the 5K to win by nearly 18 seconds.
Morningside's men turned in a pair of runner-up marks. Senior Ro Paschal (Mancos, Colo.) clocked a 1:56.5 in the 800, and freshman Tyson Spradling (Broomfield, Colo.) leaped six feet, one inch in the high jump.
Mside continues its 2022 outdoor slate at the Sioux City Relays Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8.
