Mustangs Sweep Opening Day
PARKVILLE, Mo. – Morningside Men’s Volleyball got its season off to a strong start with a pair of wins on its first day of competition, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20) over Goshen in the season opener before adding a 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-18) win over Avila.

PARKVILLE, Mo. – Morningside Men's Volleyball got its season off to a strong start with a pair of wins on its first day of competition, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20) over Goshen in the season opener before adding a 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-18) win over Avila.
The Mustangs flexed their depth against the Maple Leafs, getting 18 guys time on the floor. Natan Alves led Morningside's offense with eight kills, Mauro Verstraeten and Mohamed Benkrid followed with five each. Draider Wilcox had 11 assists, while Gabe Schreck and Lucca Stoelinga had five each.
Wilcox had six digs, followed by Braden Maneja with five, while Shane Kelly and Tucker Juhnke each had four. Benkrid had two solo blocks. Edoardo Pirazzo and Ferdinando Vinti each had two block assists.
17 Mustangs played against Avila's Eagles, led by Liam Lutz with nine kills, Jarrick Bagaoisan and Kelly followed with four each. Bagaoisan had 11 assists, while Schreck had nine.
Maneja had 10 digs and Juhnke had five to champion the defense in the match.
Morningside will face a test tomorrow, as no. 14 Westcliff looms next on the schedule at noon, before the Mustangs play Governors State, who is receiving votes, at 4 p.m.
