Morningside had opportunities throughout Game 1 on Thursday afternoon, but a mix of missed chances and defensive miscues proved costly in two losses to Concordia at East High School.
The Mustangs jumped out early, manufacturing two runs in the first inning. After working a pair of walks and applying pressure on the bases, Romani Perez delivered an RBI single to bring home the game's first run, and Jacob O'Dell followed with a run-scoring groundout to make it 2-0.
Morningside added to the lead in the third when O'Dell came through again, lining an RBI single to score Conner Maston and push the advantage to 3-1.
The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the third.
Morningside scratched across its final run in the sixth inning. Mason King worked his way aboard and later came around to score on a Jaxon Bunkers RBI groundout, cutting the deficit to 6-4, which proved to be the final score.
Concordia then won Game 2, 6-0, holding Morningside to five hits, all singles.
With the two losses, Morningside falls to 21-5 in GPAC play, and second in the conference standings. The Mustangs' regular-season finale is at 1 p.m. Saturday against Doane.
