RV Mustangs closes out Waldorf with third-set comeback

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Down three in the third set on Saturday, the Morningside women's volleyball team was determined to finish it off and sweep Waldorf at home.
Thanks to some resiliency — a kill by Sidda Hagedorn and an ace from Emma Haren — the Mustangs were able to do just that. The Mustangs (8-4, 2-0 GPAC) swept the Warriors by set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.
RV Morningside hit .233 in both the second and third sets en route to hitting .213 in the win.
Statistically, the Mustangs were led by Payten Lode with 10 kills, while Hagedorn added nine and Haren chipped in eight. Setter Kyla Dyrstad dished out 34 assists and added a service ace.
Defensively, libero Aubrey Sandbothe anchored the back row with 22 digs, and Lode and Haren added eight and seven, respectively. At the net, Hagedorn finished with 2.5 blocks, and Adelyn Harris had 2.0 total. Morningside also totaled six service aces, led by Lode and Taya Phillips with two each.
The Mustangs play the two Sioux County teams — Northwestern and Dordt — on the road this week, then return home Sept. 24 against Dakota Wesleyan.
