RV Mustangs drop season opener to RV Vikings

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside women's volleyball opened the season Thursday night with a four-set loss to RV Valley City State inside Allee Gymnasium.
The Vikings took the match 18-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-12.
The Mustangs (0-1) came out strong in the opening set, using a four-point swing fueled by two Viking errors, a Malia Fichtl kill, and an Audrey Waido service ace. Peyton Lode sealed the set with an ace of her own to give Morningside the early edge.
Emma Haren paced the Mustangs with 14 kills, while Jacey Miller added nine. Setter Hannah Stremick dished out a team-high 24 assists, with Waido at 17.
Defensively, Kyla Dyrstad led the way with 22 digs. Haren and Lode each chipped in 11 as well. At the net, Adelyn Harris recorded the team's lone solo block to go along with three block assists.
Morningside returns to action this weekend with three matches at the Siouxland Sports Academy Tournament in North Sioux City.
