Four Mustangs finish in 5,000-meter Top 10

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Courtney Sporrer led the way for the Morningside women's track and field team Friday night, capturing a title and pacing a strong distance showing at the Northwestern Invite.
Sporrer claimed first place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17 minutes, 53.99 seconds, controlling the race from the front to give the Mustangs their lone victory of the meet.
Morningside placed four runners inside the Top 10 in the 5,000, showcasing its depth in distance events. Estefana Beisswenger finished fourth in 19:19.54, followed by Gabby Ryan in seventh (19:56.49) and London Rogge in eighth (20:00.19), giving the Mustangs a strong presence in the event.
Carmen Buschkamp recorded a runner-up finish in 13:32.03 in the steeplechase to add another podium performance to the team's effort.
In the field events, Aleena Edwards led the way with a pair of Top 10 finishes. She placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 150 feet, 2 inches, and added a second-place finish in the discus at 113-7, giving Morningside a strong showing outside of the track.
Shelby Mills contributed additional Top 10 finishes in the throws, placing 10th in the hammer throw at 142 feet even.
