SEWARD, Neb. — The Morningside University women's track and field team opened the indoor season with a strong showing at the Bulldog Early Bird Meet on Friday and Saturday at the Walz Fieldhouse.
Senior Courtney Sporrer highlighted the weekend by setting a new school record in the 3,000 meters, winning the event in 10:09.89. Her performance eclipsed the previous school mark of 10:16.99, set by Tiffany Shepherd in 2017. Morningside placed two other athletes in the top four of the race, as Madison Sporrer finished third in 10:47.03, and Gabby Ryan took fourth in 10:48.88.
In the middle distances, Morgan Sachs claimed a victory in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:25.08. Jolee Meszadded a third-place finish in the 600 meters with a time of 1:41.03, while Ava Lang followed closely behind in fifth.
The Mustangs will look to build on the strong start as the indoor season continues in 2026.
