Mustangs Claim Women's Tennis GPAC Tournament Title
OMAHA, Neb. – Morningside avenged last year’s Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament championship match as the top-ranked Mustangs again toppled Concordia, 4-1, to claim the 2026 GPAC Women’s Tennis Tournament title in Omaha earlier today.
OMAHA, Neb. – Morningside avenged last year's Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament championship match as the top-ranked Mustangs again toppled Concordia, 4-1, to claim the 2026 GPAC Women's Tennis Tournament title in Omaha earlier today.
Morningside secured the pivotal doubles point 2-0, but also held an advantage in the uncompleted no. 3 match. Lara Heinrich and Helene Kreibich advanced Morningside's case with a quick 6-0 victory in the no. 2 doubles match before Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall clinched the point with a 6-2 win. Kailee Bailey and Stefany Simplicio held a 5-2 lead when their match was terminated due to the clinch.
Bailey worked quickly, as she did last time these two teams played, checking in first with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the no. 2 position. Jensen secured a 6-3, 6-0 win at no. 1, and Simplicio clinched the match and the title 6-1, 6-1.
The Mustangs have secured the GPAC's lone automatic bid to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women's Tennis National Championship, held May 12-16 in Mobile, Ala.
