CRETE, NEB. – A sweep of doubles proved to be the push Morningside needed in women’s tennis today to get a Great Plains Athletic Conference win over Doane, 4-3.
CRETE, NEB. – A sweep of doubles proved to be the push Morningside needed in women's tennis today to get a Great Plains Athletic Conference win over Doane, 4-3.
The Mustangs split singles matches with the tigers, 3-3, following the opening doubles series.
Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall were first in the scorebook in doubles play, winning 6-1. Kailee Bailey and Stefany Simplicio followed at no. 2, winning 6-3. Lidia Suarez and Sophia Guntren completed the sweep, 6-4, in the no. 3 slot.
Jensen was the first win in singles play for Morningside, tying the match at 2-2 after Doane secured a pair of singles wins. Her win came with a side of grit, as she came back from a 5-7 loss to win 7-5, 6-3.
Suarez followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the no. 5 position, and Simplicio clinched the team win with a 6-0, 6-2 win at no. 4.
Morningside is back on the court on Wednesday, facing Mount Marty at 2 p.m. before wrapping the regular season against College of Saint Mary next week.
