Unfazed Mustangs hand Northwestern 7-0 loss
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – A change of venue due to today’s weather didn’t rattle the Mustangs as they shut out Northwestern 7-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s tennis.

Morningside quickly won the doubles point, with all three draws wrapping up after just over 30 minutes of play. Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall were the first in the book, winning the no. 1 pairing 6-0. Lidia Suarez and Sophia Guntren followed with a 6-1 win at no. 3 to secure the singles point, and Kailee Bailey and Stefany Simplicio completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory.
Marshall kept the pressure on as play spread onto courts 4-6, winning the no. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-1. Bailey, this week's GPAC player of the week, added a 6-1, 6-3 win at no. 3, and Suarez, playing the no. 5 match, clinched the win 6-2, 6-3. Jensen followed 6-1, 6-3 at no. 1 and Simplicio continued to push the needle in favor of the Mustangs 6-0, 6-1 at no. 4.
With pride on the line in the only remaining match, all eyes turned to Guntren and the no. 6 pairing. The junior from Sergeant Bluff held strong as she battled, winning 6-1, 6-3.
The Mustangs travel to Doane next, playing on Sunday at 1 p.m.
