Mustang wrap 2022 competition with sixth place finish at Macalester
SAINT PAUL, MINN. – The Mustangs were on the road once again this weekend, traveling to Macalester College for their final meet before winter training. Morningside placed sixth of the nine teams participating in the event.

Session one on Friday evening started with the 400-yard medley relay team of Maddy Slaughter, Grace Holzerland, Mackenzie Campbell, and Josie Dike, placing 11th with a time of 4:23.99.
Kirstin Verplanke placed sixth overall in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:19.07. In the same event, Haley Snawerdt placed 13th with a time of 20:40.04, Payton Miller placed 15th with a time of 21:12.98, and Amber Westerberg placed 16th with a time of 21:18.30.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Holzerland swam a time of 2:25.96 for 23rd place, Maya McReynolds swam a time of 2:32.26 for 26th place, and Slaughter swam a time of 2:32.86 for 27th place.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the most stacked event of the night, Makenna Laher represented Morningside well, placing 15th with a time of 26.15.
Concluding the first session, Dike, Slaughter, Laher, and Verplanke completed the 800-yard freestyle relay in a time of 8:46.69, good for fifth place.
Saturday's session two opened with the 200-yard medley relay team of Slaughter, Holzerland, Campbell, and Dike swimming to the wall with a time of 2:00.09 for ninth place.
In the 200-yard freestyle Verplanke placed 12th with a time of 2:07.10 and Snawerdt placed 14th with a time of 2:07.54.
Holzerland touched the wall in 10th place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.74.
To conclude the session, Mustangs Dike, Campbell, Holzerland, and Laher finished in the top ten in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.22, touching the wall in eighth place.
Session three began with the 500-yard freestyle. Verplanke and Snawdert had 12th and 14th placings with times of 5:39.15 and 5:42.03.
For the 100-yard freestyle Laher, Campbell, and Dike placed 10th, 11th, and 12th with times of 57.04, 57.28, and 58.02.
To conclude the meet, Laher, Keller, Campbell, and Holzerland swam the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:52.37 for seventh place.
The Mustangs will return to competition in their home pool on Sat. January 21st for the Midland Dual.
