Morningside swimming faces strong competition at Gustavus Adolphus

SAINT PETER, MINN. – Morningside womens' swimming was in action early as the team's milers arrived at Gustavus Adolphus College bright and early to swim the 1650-yard freestyle.
Kirstin Verplanke swam her way to second place with a time of 20:03.97. Haley Snawerdt placed fifth with a time of 20:38.44, Payton Miller placed eighth with a time of 20:50.64, and Amber Westerberg placed ninth at 21:17.26.
Later in the day, Maddy Slaughter, Grace Holzerland, Mackenzie Campbell, and Josie Dike swam into sixth place with a time of 2:00.12 for the 200 medley relay.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Dike touched the wall at 2:08.20, good for fourth place.
Campbell took fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.02.
Holzerland also had a fifth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.21.
With another fifth place finish, the 200-freestyle relay of Dike, Campbell, Holzerland, and Makenna Laher touched the wall at 1:46.33.
Dike and Campbell had top ten finishes in the 100-yard freestyle. Dike placed fifth with a time of 57.37, and Campbell placed tenth with a time of 58.90.
Verplanke, Holzerland, and Sawdert also had top ten finishes in the 500-yard freestyle. Verplanke placed fifth with a time of 5:46.68, Holzerland placed seventh with a time of 5:55.27, and Snawerdt placed tenth at 5:59.63.
For the last event of the night, Dike, Holzerland, Campbell, and Laher had a strong fourth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:57.10.
Morningside swimmers will be back on the road for the Macalester College Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
