Head coach Bryan Farris' Mustangs claimed an event title for the second successive night, produced four schools records and hit four more National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' qualifying cuts at Midland University's Dillon Family Aquatic Center. With that in mind, the men continued to hang near the top of the team leaderboard as 24 points separated Olivet Nazarene University (470), Midland (459) and Mside (436), while the women jumped into fourth place (203.5).
Senior James Camp, fresh off being part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay Thursday, came back to stand atop the awards podium in the 100-yard butterfly. His time of 49.47 seconds set a new school and meet standard and was a provisional national qualifying cut.
Digging deeper in the results, there were plenty of headlines. Farris' men's team added a third-place outing in the 200-yard medley relay with junior J.R. Albers (Gillette, Wy.), freshman Caden Morton (Gillette, Wy.), sophomore Noah Perisho (Marshalltown, Iowa), and sophomore Joe Ciriaco (Papillion, Neb.) (1:34.9) which was good for a school record and provisional national qualifying status. Senior Ron DeFauw (Rock Springs, Wy.) battled Midland's Jeremi Aubin to the finish, placing second in the 400-yard individual medley. DeFauw took second (4:17.73) which was a provisional national qualifying mark.
Two more relays added accolades during the evening, too. The women's 200-yard medley relay group of sophomores Rachel Roose (Waverly, Iowa), sophomore Grace Holzerland (Sioux City, Iowa), Mackenzie Campbell (Guthrie Center, Iowa) and Josie Dike (Riverton, Wy.) set a new school record (1:53.25). The men's 800-yard freestyle quartet of Albers, senior James Spicer (Rock Springs, Wy.), Perisho, and sophomore Willy Pinnow (Elkhorn, Neb.) hit the pad in 7:04.41, a national championship qualifying time and school record.
The final day of competition for the 2022 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships is Saturday, Feb. 5, beginning at 9 a.m.
