OMAHA, NEB. – Behind the foot of freshman midfielder Antonia Janssen (Darmstadt, Germany), Morningside University resumed its late regular-season surge Wednesday, Oct. 27.
Dodging the raindrops at College of Saint Mary's Heritage Park field and a fierce Flames defense, Janssen unloaded a successful offensive salvo that found its home in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the second half. Mside's defense, spearheaded by the clean sheet goalkeeping of senior Sarah Finn (Tampa, Fla.), kept the advantage on the scoreboard until quadruple zeroes.
Finn, battling through a 12-9 shots edge for the home team, posted five saves. It was her 11th successive appearance with two-or-more. Janssen and fellow freshman midfielder Nathalie Larsson (Gothenburg, Germany) shared Morningside's total shots lead (two).
Morningside, reaching the 10-wins-or-more mark for the third time in the last four seasons with its third straight victory, closes out the regular season Saturday, Oct. 30. Dakota Wesleyan University visits Elwood Olsen Stadium for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
