Morningside takes on strong field in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – In a field of nationally ranked teams, the Morningside women's golf team placed fifth at the Trailblazer Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada Monday and Tuesday.
Seven of the 10 teams at the competition were either ranked or receiving votes in the most recent NAIA poll, including the Mustangs. Morningside finished with 679 strokes over two days for fifth place. The four teams above the Mustangs are ranked No. 3, 16, 12, and 1 in the NAIA. The Mustangs beat out two teams receiving votes in the poll.
Sofia Castelan was Morningside's top finisher, finishing tied for sixth at 13-over par. Castelan had the best round out of all golfers on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under par 71.
Lucy Brown placed 14th individually with a two-round total of 163. Brown's first round 79 was the best opening round score for the Mustangs. Ainsley Hergert tied for 36th with a 179 and Alysen Sander finished one shot behind Hergert with a 180. Aidan Sander scored a 211.
The Mustangs return to the course March 25-26 in Kansas City for the Staco Spring Classic Hosted by Park University.
