Talented trio lifts Mustangs to Siouxland Invite top spot

Head coach Nick Wanderscheid's squad put up scores of 313 at Landsmeer Golf Club and 314 at The Ridge Golf Course en route to a 627 36-hole total that eclipsed the rest of the team leaderboard by 39 strokes. The grouping of seniors Laia Badosa (Girona, Spain) and Maria Zorrilla (Monterrey, Mexico), and sophomore Sofia Castelan (Queretaro, Mexico) spearheaded the attack.
Badosa, earning a meet medalist accolade for the eighth time in her star-studded collegiate career, fired off rounds of 72 and 75 for a 147 that bested runner-up Kelsey Heath of Mount Marty University by six strokes. Zorrilla wound up third (79-75 – 154), and Castelan (84-76 – 160) placed fourth for three Mustangs winding up in the first five.
Mside returns to the course Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17 and 18, for Briar Cliff University's Lila Frommelt Classic. Two Rivers Golf Course in Union County, S.D., is the venue.
