Morningside rolls its way to home championship

SIOUX CITY, IA – In its lone home competition of the 2022-23 season, the women's bowling team took the main tournament and match play championships over the weekend at Plaza Bowl in Sioux City.
The Mustang Invite champions tallied 7,863 points in the main tournament. Hastings finished second with 7,764 points, followed by Wartburg and Columbia.
Those four schools competed in the match play championship. Morningside opened match play against Columbia, winning 155-135 and 218-156 for a sweep.
The Mustangs' challenger in the championship was Wartburg, who bested Hastings in the other semifinal.
Morningside lost the opening match of the championship 197-155, but won the final two matches to win the championship 177-174 and 181-118.
Individually Carissa Johnson tallied 1,084 points over six games to lead the Mustangs and was second overall. Rachel Spier was second on the team and 13th overall at 1,030 points.
Morgan Roark tallied 1,015 points and Senior Kaitlin Hofmeister tallied 1,012 points.
The next competition for the Mustangs will be in Las Vegas, Nevada Dec. 18-21. Firstly, the Mustangs will compete in the Las Vegas invite on the 18 and 19, followed by the Collegiate Shoot Out on the 20 and 21.
