Mustangs outrebound Hastings in home loss

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Morningside women's basketball team fell to Hastings on Saturday in the penultimate regular-season game, 79-59, in Allee Gymnasium.
Morningside began the game on a high note, leading 18-13 after the first quarter. After the game was tied early, the Mustangs went on a brief 8-3 run to take the lead.
The Mustangs had their best shooting quarter throughout the second, as they went 8 of 17 from the floor. Lily Vollertsen scored six of her 21 points during that quarter.
Vollertsen had another double-double for the Mustangs, as she also had 10 rebounds. The senior from Syracuse, Neb., also surpassed the 1,500-point mark over her career, becoming the 14th Morningside player to do so.
"She's one of the best posts we've ever had," head coach Jamie Sale said on the KMNS-AM postgame show. "She's about as versatile as any player we've ever had."
Sam Ehlers also turned in a double-double. The junior from Ponca, Neb., scored 16 points and corralled 12 rebounds.
The Msutangs outrebounded the Broncos 48-44 in the loss. Clancy Brown had seven rebounds.
Morningside's next game is next Saturday against Briar Cliff at home.
