Mustangs take 5th spot in GPAC preseason poll

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — On Thursday, the Morningside women's basketball team was voted fifth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll, garnering 83 points.
The Mustangs went 11-11 last season in conference play, while also going 13-16 overall. Four of those wins, however, came against ranked opponents, including a win over then-No. 5 Briar Cliff in the regular-season finale.
Lily Vollertsen, last year's leading scorer at 15.3 points per game, returns for her senior season. Sam Ehlers returns for her junior campaign after being the No. 3 leading scorer last year at 7.1 ppg.
Morningside has eight games in November, starting off the season with a home game on Nov. 1 vs. Mount Mercy. GPAC play tips off Nov. 15 at Midland.
