Blistering offense gives Morningside 103-59 win over Lancers
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Mustangs started out hot, hitting five three-pointers in the first 10 minutes of play and running away with a 103-59 win over Mount Marty Saturday afternoon in Allee Gym.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Mustangs started out hot, hitting five three-pointers in the first 10 minutes of play and running away with a 103-59 win over Mount Marty Saturday afternoon in Allee Gym.
Morningside hit triple digits for the first time since January 15, 2022 (101-69 win vs Doane). The 103 points are also the most points in a game since Morningside scored 107 against Mount Marty in November of 2020.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 26-10 first quarter lead, in large part to five three-pointers for the Mustangs. The hot shooting carried Morningside throughout the game. A 16-point lead for the Mustangs remained at halftime as both sides scored 20 points in the second quarter.
In the second half, the Mustangs stepped up the defensive pressure, making it difficult for the Lancers to move the ball up the court. Morningside added 10 points to the cushion in the third quarter and added 18 more points to the lead in the fourth quarter.
Alexis Spier paced the Mustang offense with 16 points and five rebounds. Chaise Pfanstiel, Chloe Lofstrom, and Jaeden Webb tallied 11 points each as the Mustangs shot 58% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc. Pfanstiel had a game-high six assists and the Mustangs outrebounded Mount Marty 39-33.
The Mustangs are back home Tuesday against the Dordt Defenders at 6 p.m.
