Morningside Sweeps Waldorf to Set Up Softball Showdown for Second Place
FOREST CITY, Iowa – With just four games remaining in the regular season, the Great Plains Athletic Conference softball standings remained as tight as ever, as Morningside picked up a pair of wins at Waldorf today to remain locked in a tie for second place at 15-3 in the league, with Dakota Wesleyan a game ahead at 16-2. The Mustangs play Midland, the other second place team, on Friday and DWU on Saturday.

FOREST CITY, Iowa – With just four games remaining in the regular season, the Great Plains Athletic Conference softball standings remained as tight as ever, as Morningside picked up a pair of wins at Waldorf today to remain locked in a tie for second place at 15-3 in the league, with Dakota Wesleyan a game ahead at 16-2. The Mustangs play Midland, the other second place team, on Friday and DWU on Saturday.
The Mustangs' push to stay in contention today got started with a bang, as Morningside ran away with a 12-0 contest in five innings. A much more competitive 7-1 second contest concluded the twinbill.
Bralen Biddlecome put Morningside on the scoreboard, crossing the plate on a Jenna Skradski single.
Amber Dougherty led the Mustangs' offense in the contest, scoring three times with three hits and four RBIs. Jenna Skradski and Mackenzi Harrel each also had three-hit days, while Jalyn Noelle, Harrel, Adeline Fliege, Ashlyn Caniglia, and Jenna Skradski also recorded at least one RBI.
Fliege went the distance in the shortened shutout, giving up three hits and striking out four.
Morgan Secora got the start in game two, throwing six scoreless innings with four hits and six strikeouts. Jordan Skradski added a strikeout in a no-hit final frame.
Harrel and Josie Hernandez each accounted for two RBIs in the nightcap, with Noelle accounting for a fifth RBI. Harrel had three hits, while Alexys Jones, and Fliege each had two. Dougherty, Noelle, Harrel, Fliege, Jones, and Emma Barwick all scored in the contest.
Morningside will have an opportunity to take sole possession of second place on Friday when Midland comes to the Jensen Softball Complex for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
