Mustangs drop pair at Friends

WICHITA, Kan. – The Mustangs started their second weekend of spring break on the road Thursday night, falling to Friends 12-1 and 16-7 Thursday.

In game one, Morningside mustered up three hits. Morgan Nixon, Taylor Richter, and Vanessa Bohuslavsky recorded one hit apiece. Richter scored the lone run of the game for Morningside.

Grace Buffington pitched two and two-thirds with Bralen Biddlecome recording the final four outs for Morningside. An eight-run third inning was a game changer for Friends.

The Mustangs tallied three runs in the top of the first of game two as Sydney Petersen hit a two-run home run and Nixon followed that up with a solo home run in the following at-bat. 

Friends responded with seven runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the second. Trailing 10-3, Petersen singled in a run and scored on a Kennedee Jones home run to make it 10-6 after two-and-a-half innings. 

Friends scored three more in the third and Petersen walked to bring in her fourth RBI of the game in the fourth, but Friends' offensive firepower was too much on the day for Morningside. 

Jenna Skradski and Morgan Secora pitched the opening inning and Buffington pitched the final three for the Mustangs.

Morningside remains in Kansas Friday, taking on Tabor and Bethel in the McPherson Tournament.
