Turnis, Street Lead Morningside Delegation at Sioux City Open
NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – More than a dozen Morningside wrestlers competed in the Sioux City Open today, headlined by a third-place finish for Carson Turnis and a fifth-place finish for Kaden Street.
NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – More than a dozen Morningside wrestlers competed in the Sioux City Open today, headlined by a third-place finish for Carson Turnis and a fifth-place finish for Kaden Street.
Turnis' day started with a victory via major decision in the second round of the 165-pound bracket, winning 13-1. He continued with an 8-4 decision in the quarterfinals, but fell in the semifinals via tech fall, 19-4.
He continued with a free pass via no contest in the consolation semifinals and won the third-place match 2-1.
Street joined his teammate in the 165-pound bracket, but managed to tread a separate path. Like Turnis his day started in the second round, where he pinned his opponent in 4:06. He followed it with a fall in 1:56, but was the one that found himself on his back in the semifinals, falling at the 4:57 mark. He then suffered a loss by major decision, 18-15 in the consolation semifinals, but claimed the victory in the fifth-place match by no contest.
Morningside will next look for a piece of the Great Plains Athletic Conference title as it competes against Hastings, Concordia, and league-leading Doane in round two of the GPAC Duals, hosted by Doane on February 7. The Mustangs' match against Hastings gets underway at 11 a.m.
