Mustangs open dual season with win at Concordia

The Mustangs opened the dual season with a 32-10 victory over host institution Concordia, who, like Morningside, was receiving votes in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics coaches’ ranking.

The Mustangs opened the dual season with a 32-10 victory over host institution Concordia, who, like Morningside, was receiving votes in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics coaches' ranking.
The Mustangs got rolling early, as Noah Thorsen pinned his opponent in the first period to give Morningside a 6-0 lead. Christian Ahren followed with a 17-16 decision to make it 9-0.
Abraham Dirkx matched Thorsen's start, picking up a pin in the 157-pound weight class in 4:51 to give the Mustangs a 15-6 advantage that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the dual.
At 165 pounds, Zander Ernst worked all seven minutes to emerge with a 10-4 decision. Kaden Street all but sealed the victory with a 16-8 major decision to give the Mustangs an 18-10 lead, and Bryce Kwiecinski and Jakob Jerabek slammed the door on the Bulldogs with a 10-1 major and a first-period pin, respectively.
Morningside is back on the mat on December 7, when it's wrestlers compete in the Doane Open in Crete, Neb.
