No. 5 Morningside picks up first dual win of the season
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Morningside overcame a 15-0 deficit in their season opening dual against Concordia Tuesday as a part of the GPAC Duals Day One at Long Lines Family Rec Center.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Morningside overcame a 15-0 deficit in their season opening dual against Concordia Tuesday as a part of the GPAC Duals Day One at Long Lines Family Rec Center.
Concordia scored the first 15 points in the dual. Hunter Steffans broke into the scoring column for Morningside with a 9-7 decision at 149 pounds.
The Mustangs went on to win six of the final seven matches to take the win. Noah Styskal earned the first of two tech falls for Morningside 22-6 at 157 pounds. Jackson Chapin scored a tech fall 17-1 at 174.
Morningside picked up 12 points on a pair of falls, first by Alex Vandyke in 6:41 at 184. The final match of the day at 285 was a Morningside victory by way of pin for Hunter DeJong in 3:28. The other Morningside win was by Hayden Wempen at 197, who finished with a 14-3 major decision.
The Mustangs are back in action Dec. 2 at the Buena Vista Open.
