SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Spurred by four pins, Morningside University closed out its 2022 dual slate with a 33-21 victory over Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference power and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics No. 14-ranked Ottawa University Tuesday, Feb. 8.
Head coach Jake Stevenson's Mustangs, winding up 7-2 on the season, received bonus-point victories from junior 141-pounder Noah Styskal (David City, Neb.), junior 149-pounder John Diener (Kaukauna, Wis.), sophomore 157-pounder Caleb Connor (Papillion, Neb.), freshman 174-pounder Jackson Chapin (Fernley, Nev.), and sophomore 197-pounder Hunter DeJong (Sibley, Iowa). Styskal took a forfeit, while Diener, Connor, Chapin, and DeJong won by fall.
Chapin's victory was the match of the night inside the fieldhouse of the Hindman-Hobbs Center, as he upended a top 20 foe. In a back and forth early points spree with the Braves Kendall Biddle, he caught him in a full body lock near the edge of the mat and got the referee's pin call. It was his 11th victory of the year and third in his last four outings.
The Mustangs move into preparations for the 2022 Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19.
