Morningside drops a five set thriller with Dordt

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Mustangs jumped out to a two-set advantage against Dordt Saturday night, but were unable to grab the victory, falling in five 27-25, 26-24, 23-25, 17-25, 11-15.
Morningside had double digit kills in each of the first four sets, but attacking errors plagued them down the stretch. Morningside totaled 66 kills in five sets, compared to 48 for the Defenders, but committed 36 attacking errors to 23 for Dordt.
Morningside had to rally to win sets one and two, and was looking to do it a third time in set three, but the Defenders held them off, creating a turning point in the match. From there, the Defenders were in control, winning the fourth set by eight and the fifth by four.
Natan Alves shined yet again, notching 25 kills. Saturday was his seventh match with 20 or more kills this season. Alves also added 14 digs. Isaiah Baynes pitched in 16 kills and Jacob Baynes had 10 kills. Jacob DePauw tied a program record with 55 assists and added 13 digs. Owen Anderson, the Mustangs' all-time leader in career digs, pitched in 17 digs and Tucker Juhnke added 10.
The Mustangs are back in action Friday against Ottawa.
