Mustangs Blank Midland in Regular Season Finale

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – Morningside secured sole possession of the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season title this afternoon with a senior day 7-0 win over Midland.
The Mustangs got to work early in the match, as Mathys Arnold and Jesse Gerth secured a 6-1 win in no. 3 doubles. Santiago Minetti and Gabriel Whiston won 6-2 at no. 2 to take the doubles point, and Marcos Menendez Hervella and Alexis Diaz kept Midland winless with a 6-4 win.
Arnold was first in the book in singles, as he picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win in the no. 3 match. Diaz followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win; and Menendez Hervella clinched the match and the title as he claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win at no. 1.
Minetti kept Midland scoreless with a 6-0, 6-0 win at no. 5; Gerth added a 6-3, 6-3 victory; and Whiston completed the sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 win.
The Mustangs, as one of the top two teams in the six-team postseason tournament, have earned a bye in the first round of the GPAC tournament, played next week in Omaha as hosted by College of Saint Mary.
