Mustang Men Blank Bethany in 7-0 Victory
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – Morningside’s men’s tennis team matched their women’s counterpart’s achievement yesterday, posting a 7-0 shutout of the Bethany Swedes at the First Serve Tennis Center.

Mathys Arnold and Jesse Gerth, reunited in the no. 3 doubles position, got the Mustangs rolling with a 6-1 victory and Santiago Minetti and Gabriel Whiston secured the doubles point, 6-3, in the no. 2 spot.
Morningside went to work in singles play, with Arnold adding a shortened 6-0, 4-0 victory at no. 3. Marcos Menendez Hervella followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory, and Alexis Diaz slugged out a 7-5 win before settling in to take his second set at no. 2, 6-1, to guarantee Morningside would walk away with the win.
As the second round of singles play rolled out on the three courts available at First Serve this morning, Whiston jumped ahead 6-1 in set one, but needed a 7-2 tiebreaker in set two to win 7-6. Minetti had a similar path, winning 6-4 before winning 7-6 via an 8-6 tiebreaker. Derek Buikema rounded out Morningside's scoring six singles, winning 6-4, 6-3.
The Mustangs are back on the courts early tomorrow, with the men slated to play Ottawa starting at 10 a.m. in South Sioux.
