Mustangs Blank Coyotes in Home Opener

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – The no. 13 Morningside men's tennis team got its home schedule underway for 2026 this week, picking up a 7-0 win over Kansas Wesleyan at the First Serve Tennis Center.

The Mustangs not only kept the Coyotes off the scoreboard, they left them winless, taking all nine matches.

Santiago Minetti and Gabriel Whiston were first in the book at no. 2 doubles, winning 6-3. Mathys Arnold and Jesse Gerth followed with a 6-2 victory at no. 1, clinching the doubles point, and Derek Buikema and Abhishek Mohapatra won 6-4 to complete the sweep.

Whiston was quick to add to the team lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win in no. 3 singles. Arnold added a 6-1, 6-2 victory, and Marcos Menendez Hervella claimed the win at no. 1, 6-5, 6-0, to clinch the match.

Thomas Purrer added on a 6-0, 6-1 win at no. 6 as the second wave of singles began to finish. Buikema won 7-5, 6-0 at no. 4, and Joao Pedro Pierry Izoldi Costa won 6-1, 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreaker to complete the sweep.

The Mustangs head to Kearney, Neb., on Sunday to play McPherson at 8 a.m. and Nebraska-Kearney at 2 p.m.
