Men's Tennis adds two wins in Kansas

OTTAWA, KAN. – Morningside’s hot streak continued this week, picking up a pair of 5-2 men’s tennis wins over Bethel and Ottawa in Kansas.

OTTAWA, KAN. – Morningside's hot streak continued this week, picking up a pair of 5-2 men's tennis wins over Bethel and Ottawa in Kansas.

Marcos Menendez Hervella and Alexis Diaz and Mathys Arnold and Jesse Gerth got things rolling in Newton, Kan., winning 6-4 and 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker, respectively.

Menendez Hervella came back from a 5-7 loss with 6-2 and 6-4 wins to push the needle Morningside's way. Bethel got two wins, but the bottom half of the Mustangs' singles lineup polished off the match, as Gerth won 7-5, 6-0; Santiago Minetti won 4-6, 6-1, 7-5; and Arnold won 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Ottawa picked up the doubles point in the second half of the road trip, with Arnold and Gerth winning 6-1.

Menendez Hervella negated the deficit, winning 6-2, 6-3. Diaz won 7-5, 6-1 and Trenkle won 6-0 and 6-4 following a 1-6 first set. Mathys sealed the team win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory and Gerth added a 6-1, 6-2 win.

The Mustangs begin conference play next week, hosting Hastings on Saturday.
