Men's Tennis Picks Up Win in Home Opener

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside made its fall team debut today, playing host to Judson University and collecting a 6-1 win over their foes from Illinois.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead, easily collecting the doubles point on wins by Mark Trenkle and Abishek Mohapatra (6-1) and Marcos Menendez Hervella and Alexis Diaz (6-3). Mathys Arnold and Jesse Gerth added a 6-4 victory to complete the doubles sweep.

Diaz was quick to pick up a singles win, 6-1, 6-4 to add to Morningside's lead. Trenkle followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win, and Arnold clinched the victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win. 

Joao Pedro Pierry Izoldi Costa added a 6-2, 7-5 victory. Menendez then completed Morningside's scoring with a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 victory, courtesy of an 8-6 tiebreaker.

The Mustangs head to Northwestern for another non-conference match on Monday, squaring off with the Raiders at 4:30 p.m.
