LINCOLN, NEB. – The quartet of junior Jaime Maza Martin (Madrid, Spain), freshman Eduard Salvana (Calella, Spain), freshman Alex Castillo (Santiago, Chile), and freshman Danny O'Brien (Longmont, Colo.) guided Morningside University to a pair of non-conference dual victories Saturday, Feb. 26.
They each captured two singles wins apiece to spark head coach Alex Struck's squad past host Nebraska Wesleyan University 9-0 and Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Northwestern College 4-3. Martin battled through two super breakers at No. 1, and Castillo, O'Brien, and Salvana picked up two straight-set triumphs.
Their four singles victories against Northwestern provided the winning margin. The Red Raiders claimed the team point and took the No. 2 and 3 singles match-ups before Struck's crew rallied.
Morningside takes a 4-0 record into a Spring Break 2022 trip to Hilton Head, S.C., that begins March 7.
