Mustangs Win 10 of 11 Events Against Minnesota-Morris
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside’s men’s swimming team earned a decisive home victory Saturday, defeating the University of Minnesota Morris 156–48 in a dual meet at the Hindman-Hobbs Center.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside's men's swimming team earned a decisive home victory Saturday, defeating the University of Minnesota Morris 156–48 in a dual meet at the Hindman-Hobbs Center.
The Mustangs won 10 of the 11 men's events and swept both relays to secure the win. Morningside opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as the "A" squad of Santiago Vilches, Justin Bay, Pedro Fernandes, and Jack LaRue touched first in 1:37.89. The Mustangs closed the meet in similar fashion, winning the 200 freestyle relay in 1:27.05 behind John Spicer, LaRue, Fernandes, and Bay.
Morningside had a strong showing in the distance events, led by Alessandro Zoccolan, who won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:18.47 and later added a victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.83. Melle van Veen also turned in a strong performance, sweeping the 200 individual medley (2:03.18) and the 500 freestyle (5:09.83).
Spicer collected a pair of individual wins for the Mustangs, touching first in the 200 freestyle (1:48.40) and the 100 butterfly (53.85). Bay added a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.18, while Vilches captured the 100 backstroke in 53.75.
Morningside ends its regular season on January 24 at home with a dual against Nebraska Wesleyan before competing in the KCAC Championships.
