Mustangs fall short in GPAC Championship

SEWARD, Neb. — The Morningside men's soccer team's GPAC championship run came to a close Tuesday night, as Concordia edged the Mustangs 2-1 in the tournament final at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs struck first in the 21st minute, then the Mustangs answered midway through the second half. Senior Bennet Buchwald provided the equalizer in the 71st minute, finishing a loose ball inside the box for his third goal of the season.
Morningside (12-7-2) continued to press, earning eight corner kicks and outshooting Concordia 9-6 overall. But the Bulldogs regained the lead less than nine minutes later on a strike from Ricards Busmeisters that proved to be the difference.
Goalkeeper Tim Teschner recorded two saves for the Mustangs, who allowed just four shots on goal in the match. Mario Osas Damiani and Buchwald each put attempts on target, while Leonard Hohner and Lucas De Souza generated key chances late.
