Great Eight: Mustangs aplenty in All-GPAC honors

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference on Monday named eight Morningside University men's soccer players to its All-Conference teams. These players were voted on by coaches around the conference.
Four Mustangs were named onto the GPAC First Team: Senior forward Niklas Kneller, senior midfielder Yannik Vogel, senior defender Jurre Thielen, and senior defender Max Sickenberger.
Kneller led the Mustangs with nine goals, and he also had a shot-on-goal percentage of .630. Kneller also had a team-high 24 points.
Vogel scored five times this season, but three of them were go-ahead goals. He took 38 shots, second-most to Kneller.
Thielen and Sickenberger each helped hold opponents to 24 goals and a .129 shot percentage. From Sept. 28 to Nov. 5, the Mustangs allowed two goals in nine matches. Seven of those were clean sheets. Sickenberger and Thielen had four and two goals scored, respectively.
Senior midfielder Bennet Wesselkamper and freshman goalkeeper Tim Teschner were named onto the GPAC Second Team.
Wesselkamper collected five goals, while Teschner had 36 saves in 994 minutes in net.
Morningside also had Mathias Constantinou and Guillermo Roman in the honorable mention category. Constantinou scored eight points, while Roman took five shots.
Mustangs head coach Tom Maxon was named as the GPAC Coach of the Year. The Mustangs went 11-6-2 overall, and won eight of 10 GPAC matches en route to the GPAC regular-season championship.
