Mustangs erase halftime deficit in GPAC opener

HASTINGS, NEB. – A trio of Mustang goals proved to be just the answer needed to lift Morningside over a skilled Hastings program in Great Plains Athletic Conference action, 3-2.
The Broncos got on the board early in the first half, netting their first goal at the 10-minute mark. Morningside was able to counter after the intermission, as Niklas Kneller got the equalizer in the 49th minute.
Jordan Bickel put the Mustangs ahead when he got a pass from Max Sickenberger in the 61st minute and buried it for the go ahead score. Bennet Wesselkaemper netted an insurance goal in the 64th minute that would prove to be crucial, as Hastings found the goal again in the 83rd minute.
Hastings got off just three shots on goal in the contest, resulting in one save and two goals allowed in the contest by Tim Teschner. The freshman picked up his second victory of the season in goal.
The Mustangs are back at it on Saturday, when they welcome Doane's Tigers to Olsen Stadium at 8 p.m.
