SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Sophomore forward Isaac Gould-Monseque (Romford, England) and senior midfielder Noah Jorritsma (Leipzig, Germany) notched vital goals late in the first half Saturday, Oct. 9.
With a Great Plains Athletic Conference match on the Elwood Olsen Stadium pitch seemingly headed to a scoreless halftime break, head coach Tom Maxon's Morningside University Mustangs broke up the deadlock on the feet of the two offensive stalwarts. Gould-Monseque's blast from the box beat Dordt University netminder Brandon Hansen to the left side. Jorritsma, with the home side offense continuing a strong final 15-minute attack, also got a ball in front and struck paydirt for a 2-0 Mustangs advantage.
Mside's 25-12 total shots edge saw two more scores grace their side of the board. Sophomore midfielder/forward Victor Beker (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and forward Gero Zarbo (Berlin, Germany), also a member of the ever-improving Class of 2024, found the back of the net to ensure a 4-1 Morningside victory.
Senior goalkeeper Tobias Sadler (Augsburg, Germany) narrowly missed a 90-minute clean sheet in just his third career start. An own goal dashed the attempt, as Sadler concluded the afternoon with one save.
Morningside (8-4 overall, 5-2 GPAC), moving into third on the loop standings, takes a third-match win streak into its annual clash for River City supremacy Wednesday, Oct. 13. The Chargers visit Elwood Olsen Stadium for an 8 p.m. start.
