HASTINGS, NEB. – An unfortunate script again came into play for Morningside University Wednesday, Sept. 29.
With the final minute of the first overtime ticking down at Hastings College's Lloyd Wilson Stadium, head coach Tim Maxon's crew appeared headed to a second extra 10 minutes. However, the host Broncos, taking a page from what Northwestern College managed a week prior, found the back of the Mustangs net with only 20 seconds remaining to forge a 3-2 victory.
Sophomore forward Gero Zarbo (Berlin, Germany) and senior midfielder Moritz Lusch (Bielefield, Germany) provided the goals for Mside (5-4 overall, 2-2 Great Plains Athletic Conference). In each instance, though, the hosts answered and even held a 2-1 regulation lead into the final 25 minutes before Lusch's co-team-leading fifth goal in the 76th minute sent the two league powers into overtime.
Sophomore forward/midfielder Victor Beker (Amsterdam, Netherlands) sat atop the shots category with three overall and two on frame. Junior goalkeeper Bjarne Huth (Bad Vilbel, Germany) was step-for-step saves-wise with Hastings net minder Brendan Dally, as each registered four saves.
Morningside looks to snap a three-match skid Saturday, Oct. 2. Kickoff for the Homecoming Week 2021 match against Doane is set for 8 p.m. at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
