Five in Top 20 as Mustangs take GPAC silver

DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. — The Morningside University men's golf team earned a runner-up finish Tuesday at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament, placing all five golfers inside the top 20.
Finn Coull led the Mustangs with a fourth-place finish, carding a 54-hole total of 224 (+8). His final round of 72 was his best of the tournament, and he recorded three birdies Tuesday after totaling just two over the opening 36 holes.
Three Mustangs — Dylan Welford, Darragh McGrath and Adam Watkin — each finished with 228. Welford posted the lowest final round among the trio with a 74. McGrath totaled three birdies in the opening round, while Watkin recorded seven birdies across the first two rounds.
Coull, Welford, McGrath, and Watkin were each named to the GPAC All-Tournament Team.
Ryan Cavanaugh tied for 16th with a 230, highlighted by a second-round 71. He opened that round with eight straight holes without a bogey, including three birdies.
As a team, Morningside matched Northwestern for the most pars in the field with 161. The Mustangs also totaled 33 birdies, second-most among GPAC teams, while their 63 bogeys ranked second-fewest in the tournament.
