Cavanaugh, Mustangs take titles at Tatanka Golf Club

NIOBRARA, Neb. — The Morningside men's golf team turned in one of its strongest all-around showings of the fall Tuesday, placing five players inside the top 15 at the Mount Marty Fall Invite at Tatanka Golf Club. The Mustangs finished at 288 (+1) to win the seven-team event, ahead of Dordt (+22, 300) and host Mount Marty (+24, 297).
The Mustangs were led by Ryan Cavanaugh, who claimed medalist honors with a two-round total of 141, good for 3-under-par. Cavanaugh fired an opening-round 70 and followed it with a 71, three strokes clear of the field. Cavanaugh had four total birdies.
Morningside's depth showed throughout the lineup. Both Dylan Welford and Darragh McGrath tied for fifth (+2) at 146. Welford was steady with consecutive rounds of 73, while McGrath rebounded from an opening 75 to shoot 71 on Tuesday.
Also in the mix was Finn Coull, whose 3-over effort left him tied for eighth at 147. Owen Bruins added a 6-over for a 150 total and 12th place, while Ariel Lev (+7) closed at 151 after rounds of 76 and 75 to tie for 13th.
