Playing the PGA-worthy TPC Deere Run layout along the banks of the Mississippi River, head coach Nick Wanderscheid's Mustangs were tied with No. 4-ranked Southeastern University of Florida after the opening round. When the final round concluded, they wound up just six shots behind the Fire for the team title (589-595).
A pair of individuals who found themselves within the top 10 helped position them for the impressive ending. Senior Jonny Douglas (Newcastle upon Tyne, England) held the leaderboard top spot with a sizzling two-under-par 69 Friday that was even more amazing with snowflakes flying in southeast Iowa. A tough-luck Saturday 76 put him in a tie for fourth (145). Fellow Class of 2022 member Sam Storey (Newcastle, England) earned a tie for 10th, going 74-74 for 148. Xan Milligan, a third senior team member, was also in the first 15, tying for 15th (149).
