SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Tyson Odvody may be in his first year with the Morningside men’s basketball program, but on Tuesday, he looked every bit the veteran. SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Tyson Odvody may be in his first year with the Morningside men's basketball program, but on Tuesday, he looked every bit the veteran.
Odvody was one of five Mustangs in double figures, scoring a career-high 23 points to help the No. 19 Mustangs roll past Peru State 105–87 inside Allee Gym.
"We needed this one," Odvody said.
The freshman from Omaha missed just one of his 12 shots and made his first 11 in 27 minutes of work. After scoring 20 points combined over his first three collegiate games, Odvody has now reached 20 in back-to-back outings.
"When Coach (Trent) Miller told me I was going to have a shot in the rotation, I knew I needed to be ready," Odvody said. "My teammates and coaches have been supportive every day. If I'm not being aggressive, they let me know."
The Mustangs put together a shooting performance for the record books, finishing 43-for-63 (68.3%) from the floor and 15-for-23 (65.2%) from three. In the second half alone, they hit 24 of 32 shots, including nine of 11 from long range.
"The 35 assists to 11 turnovers is what really stood out," Miller said. "Over the first few games, we hadn't taken care of the ball as much as I'd like. Tonight, our guys did a great job of finding each other in spots they could score. They finished plays and knocked them down. We were the aggressor — that's when we're at our best."
Daniel Brocaille added 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting, Kaden Van Regenmorter scored 22 while going 9-for-11 and a perfect 4-for-4 from deep, Caleb Dreckman tallied 15 points and seven assists, and Alex Wilcoxson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists.
Morningside broke the game open with a 24–8 run midway through the second half, putting the game away over a Bobcats team that has a Top 5 win already this season.
