Late run by Concordia sinks Mustangs
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Mustangs jumped out to the early lead against the Bulldogs Wednesday night inside of Allee Gymnasium, but Concordia ended the game on a 19-6 run to pull away with a 99-88 win over Morningside.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Mustangs jumped out to the early lead against the Bulldogs Wednesday night inside of Allee Gymnasium, but Concordia ended the game on a 19-6 run to pull away with a 99-88 win over Morningside.
The No. 19 Mustangs had five players score over 12 points in the game, but only six players scored in total. Morningside also committed 15 turnovers and put Concordia at the free throw line 23 times while only getting there themselves four times.
Morningside held a 52-45 halftime lead, in large part to hot shooting from Dylan Johnson and Ely Doble. Johnson was 4-for-4 from beyond the arc to score all 12 of his points on the night and Doble was 6-for-7 from the field with 14 of his 24 points.
The Mustangs cooled, especially from beyond the arc, in the second half. Morningside went from hitting over 60% of their shots in the first 20 minutes to 44% in the second half, including 4-of-15 from beyond the arc.
Before fouling out, Doble added 10 points to lead Morningside scorers with 24 points. He added eight rebounds. Aidan Vanderloo tallied 18 points and four assists while Jack Dotzler had 16 points and six assists. Joey Skoff added 14 points and Brendan Buckley had a team high nine rebounds.
The Mustangs have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, and are tied with Concordia at 9-4 in conference play.
Morningside hits the road Saturday, taking on Mount Marty at 3:45 p.m. in Yankton.
