SALINA, Kan. – Three Mustangs scored in double figures as Morningside defeated Bethany 72-52 Saturday in Salina, Kansas.
The Mustangs opened up a 5-point halftime lead after opening up a 12-point with five minutes to go until halftime. There was one basket, an Aidan Vanderloo three-pointer, in the first three minutes of the second half.
The lead for Morningside ballooned to double digits on a pair of Jack Dotzler free throws. Vanderloo free throws with 11:30 to play gave Morningside its biggest lead of the game at 50-37. The Mustangs scored six points in the final two minutes, all on free throws, to coast to the win.
Joey Skoff led all scorers with 26 points, including a 9-of-10 performance at the free throw line. Ely Doble tallied 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Vanderloo added 12 points. Brendan Buckley had a team-high eight rebounds and Dotzler had seven assists to go with eight points.
Morningside has a break before opening conference play on the road at Concordia Nov. 15.
