Mustangs fall in GPAC semifinals
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs overcame a first-half 10-point deficit to tie today’s game with Dordt at the half, setting up a thrill of a second half. The game saw 13 ties and 26 lead changes, as Morningside fell in men's basketball action in the final seconds, 83-82.
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs overcame a first-half 10-point deficit to tie today's game with Dordt at the half, setting up a thrill of a second half. The game saw 13 ties and 26 lead changes, as Morningside fell in the final seconds, 83-82.
Morningside hit 47 percent of its shots in the contest, making 33-of-70 in comparison to Dordt's 36-of-64. The Mustangs committed just six turnovers, for six Defender points, while grabbing 16 visitor turnovers for 18 points of their own.
Joey Skoff and Ely Doble led the Mustangs, with 20 points each. Trey Powers had 13 and Jack Dotzler and Aidan Vanderloo each had 12. Will Pottebaum rounded out all Morningside scorers with five points. Dotzler also had a team-high seven assists.
Powers led the team in rebounds, with nine. Doble had six, Brendan Buckley had four, and Skoff and Pottebaum had three each. Dotzler, Vanderloo, and Dylan Johnson each had two.
Morningside awaits the announcement of NAIA First and Second Round assignments due to be released by the NAIA on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m.
