Morningside defeats Doane, avenges early conference loss
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside men’s basketball avenged the first of its conference losses as Doane’s Tigers came to Allee Gym this weekend. The Mustangs bested the Tigers this time, defeating them 76-62.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside men's basketball avenged the first of its conference losses as Doane's Tigers came to Allee Gym this weekend. The Mustangs bested the Tigers this time, defeating them 76-62.
The Mustangs took the lead for good three minutes into the contest, as Ely Doble went to the line and sunk a pair of free throws to put the home team up 5-4. Doble, then Joey Skoff, hit layups to give Morningside some breathing room, going on to a 36-21 lead at the half.
Morningside went 27-of-53 from the field in the contest, shooting better than 50 percent, compared to Doane's 42 percent. Morningside also went 72 percent from the free throw line, making 13-of-18 attempts. The Mustangs had just six turnovers, while Doane had 11, both resulting in five points.
Doble led the Mustangs' offense, netting 19 points including 7-of-11 shots from the field. Skoff matched Doble going 7-for-11 from the floor, scoring 16 points. Trey Powers and Aidan Vanderloo followed, each recording 10 points, and Dylan Johnson had nine. Jack Dotzler had four points, but dished a career-high 11 assists in the game.
Doble had nine rebounds in the contest to lead Morningside. Powers and Brendan Buckley followed, with seven and six boards, respectively.
The Mustangs, now 14-3 and 8-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, travel to Concordia University in Seward, Neb. on Wednesday.
