SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Morningside University football team will open the 2025 season ranked No. 3 in the nation, according to the NAIA football preseason poll released Monday.
Morningside received 384 points in the coaches' poll, and topped all Great Plains Athletic Conference schools in the national survey. The only two schools that finished ahead of the Mustangs in the poll were Grand View at No. 1 and Keiser second.
This poll marks the sixth time this decade where the Mustangs have been ranked 10th or better.
The Mustangs' first opponent — Benedictine — landed at No. 4 in Monday's poll. Morningside travels to Atchinson, Kan., to face the Ravens at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Last season, the Mustangs started out the season at No. 10. The Mustangs return 15 starters to a squad that finished 12-2 in 2024.
